How to Mirror Mature Content to Roku from iPhone (AirPlay Guide)

iPhone casting mature content to a Roku TV using screen mirroring

Roku devices do not allow explicit apps in the official Roku Channel Store. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t watch content on your TV. Many viewers stream videos to their Roku device from a phone, tablet, or computer.

iPhones can send video to Roku using AirPlay. For most adult streaming sites, this is done using Screen Mirroring, which displays the entire phone screen on the TV.

Ways to Stream Content to Roku

There are several ways people send videos from a phone or computer to a Roku device. The method you use usually depends on the type of device you’re using.

Screen Mirroring
This displays your entire phone or computer screen on the TV. It’s the most common method for Android phones and Windows computers. Android users can follow our guide on How to Cast Mature Content to Roku from Android.

AirPlay (Apple Devices)
Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and Macs can send videos directly to Roku using AirPlay. This method usually provides smoother playback and better video quality. For Mac users, see our guide on How to Mirror a MacBook to Roku Using AirPlay.

HDMI Connection
Some people connect a laptop directly to their television using an HDMI cable. This method works with almost any computer but requires a physical cable.

In this guide, we’re focusing on casting content to Roku from a phone, tablet, or computer.

The step-by-step instructions below will show you exactly how to do it, including the Roku and iPhone screens you may see along the way.

Step-by-Step Guide

Before you begin, make sure your Roku device and the device you want to cast from are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Step 1: Open Roku Screen Mirroring Settings

On your Roku, go to Settings → System → Screen mirroring. This is where Roku controls whether other devices are allowed to connect.

Step 2: Set Screen Mirroring Mode to Prompt or Always Allow

Select Screen mirroring mode and make sure it is set to Prompt or Always allow. If it is set to Never allow, your phone or tablet will not be able to connect.

Step 3: Open Control Center and Tap Screen Mirroring

On iPhones with Face ID, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center. Then tap the Screen Mirroring button to search for available devices.

Tap Screen Mirroring. Your iPhone will scan for compatible devices on the same network and display them in a list.

Step 4: Select Your Roku Device

Tap your Roku device name from the list. In many cases this will be labeled something like Roku Streaming Stick, Living Room Roku, or a custom device name you previously set up.

Step 5: Enter the AirPlay Code If Roku Prompts You

Some Roku devices display an AirPlay code on the TV the first time you connect. If that happens, type the code into your iPhone and continue.

Step 6: Confirm the Roku Connection

Once the connection is approved, your iPhone will show your Roku device as selected. Depending on your setup, you may see a check mark beside the Roku name.

Step 7: Open Your Video and Press Play

Now open the website, app, or video page you want to watch and press Play. The content should appear on your Roku-connected TV.

Step 8: iPhone Confirms the Video Is Playing on an External Display

After pressing play, your iPhone may display a message saying the video is playing on an external display. This means the connection to your Roku device is active.

Step 9: The Video Appears on Your Roku TV

At this point, the video should begin playing on your Roku-connected TV. You can continue controlling playback from your phone or computer.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Double-check that Roku Screen Mirroring mode is set to Prompt or Always allow.
  • If you do not see your Roku in the list, restart the Roku device and reopen Control Center on your iPhone.
  • If Roku shows an AirPlay code, enter the code exactly as displayed on the TV.
  • Check for Roku software updates.
  • Move closer to the router if the connection seems unstable.
