How to Cast Mature Content to Roku from Android

Android phone casting mature content to a Roku TV

Roku devices do not allow explicit apps in the official Roku Channel Store. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t watch content on your TV. Many viewers stream videos to their Roku device from a phone, tablet, or computer.

Android phones can mirror their screen directly to a Roku device. This allows you to stream websites, videos, apps, and other content from your phone onto your TV.

Ways to Stream Content to Roku

There are several ways people send videos from a phone or computer to a Roku device. The method you use usually depends on the type of device you’re using.

Screen Mirroring
This displays your entire phone or computer screen on the TV. It’s the most common method for Android phones and Windows computers.

If you are using an Apple device instead, see our guide on how to mirror mature content to Roku from iPhone.

AirPlay (Apple Devices)
Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and Macs can send videos directly to Roku using AirPlay. This method usually provides smoother playback and better video quality. Mac users can follow our step-by-step guide on How to Mirror a MacBook to Roku Using AirPlay.

HDMI Connection
Some people connect a laptop directly to their television using an HDMI cable. This method works with almost any computer but requires a physical cable.

In this guide, we’re focusing on mirroring content to Roku from an Android phone.

The step-by-step instructions below will show you exactly how to do it, including the Roku and Android screens you may see along the way.

Step-by-Step Guide

Before you begin, make sure your Roku device and Android phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Step 1: Open Roku Screen Mirroring Settings

On your Roku device, go to Settings → System → Screen mirroring. This is where Roku controls whether other devices are allowed to connect.

Step 2: Set Screen Mirroring Mode

Select Screen mirroring mode and set it to Prompt or Always allow. If it is set to Never allow, your phone will not be able to connect.

Step 3: Open Android Quick Settings

Swipe down from the top of your phone to open the Quick Settings panel. On many Android devices, you may need to swipe down twice to expand the full menu.

Step 4: Tap Your Phone’s Cast Option

Find the mirroring feature on your phone and tap it. Depending on the device brand, it may be labeled Cast, Screen Cast, Smart View, or Wireless Display.

Step 5: If Roku Does Not Show Up Right Away

Sometimes the quick Cast menu starts searching but does not immediately find your Roku. If that happens, continue into your phone’s settings to access the full casting options.

Step 6: Open Android Settings

Leave the quick panel and open Settings on your Android phone so you can access the full device connection menu.

Step 7: Go to Connected Devices

Scroll through the settings list and tap Connected devices. On some phones, a similar menu may be listed under connection or display settings.

Step 8: Open Connection Preferences

Inside Connected devices, tap Connection preferences to get to the casting controls.

Step 9: Open the Cast Screen

Tap Cast to open the device list. This is where Android checks for nearby screens and streaming devices that support mirroring.

Step 10: Check the Device Scan Results

If your Roku still does not appear, Android may show a message such as No nearby devices were found. This is common until the extra display option is turned on.

Step 11: Open the Cast Options

Tap the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner of the Cast screen to see more options.

Step 12: Enable Wireless Display

Tap the Wireless display checkbox to enable it. Android should then refresh the device scan and display compatible devices like Roku.

Step 13: Select Your Roku Device

Tap your Roku device name from the list. The name may vary depending on how the device was set up.

Step 14: Wait for the Connection to Start

Once you tap the Roku, your phone should briefly display Connecting while it tries to start the mirroring session.

Step 15: Approve the Roku Prompt

If your Roku is using Prompt mode, an approval message will appear on the TV. Choose Allow to continue.

Step 16: Confirm That Android Shows Connected

After the connection is approved, your Android phone should show the Roku device as Connected.

Step 17: Roku Begins Mirroring Your Phone

Now open the site, app, or video page you want to watch and press Play. Whatever is on your phone screen should appear on the Roku-connected TV.

Step 18: Open Your Video and Press Play

Once playback begins, keep the phone connected and on the same network. You can still use it to pause, play, or leave the video page if needed.

Step 19: Watch the Video on Your Roku TV

At this point, the video should be playing on your television through the Roku connection while your phone continues handling the session.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Double-check that Roku Screen Mirroring Mode is set to Prompt or Always allow.

FAQ

Can Android phones mirror to Roku?

Yes. Most Android phones support screen mirroring using Cast, Screen Cast, Smart View, or Wireless Display.

Why can’t my Android phone find my Roku?

This usually happens when both devices are not connected to the same Wi-Fi network or when Wireless display is disabled in the Cast options.
